Green Lantern is a superhero appearing in DC Comics. Several characters have held the mantle of Green Lantern, each empowered by a power ring granting incredible abilities limited only by the wearer's willpower and imagination. These rings are fueled by the emotional spectrum and granted by the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic peacekeeping force.
The original Green Lantern, Alan Scott, debuted in All-American Comics #16 (July 1940). However, the most well-known Green Lantern is likely Hal Jordan, who first appeared in Showcase #22 (October 1959). Other notable Green Lanterns include John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Kyle Rayner, each contributing unique perspectives and skills to the Lantern Corps.
Each Green Lantern is chosen for their ability to overcome great fear, deemed worthy of wielding the power ring. They are responsible for protecting their designated sector of space, upholding justice, and serving the will of the Guardians of the Universe, the ancient and powerful beings who founded the Green Lantern Corps.
